Household hazardous waste recycling program
Council provides drop off facilities for household hazardous waste for Gold Coast residents at designated waste transfer stations. Residents can bring in their household hazardous waste for recycling or treatment.
Household hazardous wastes include everyday products such as bleach, oven cleaners, mineral turpentine, fuel, herbicides, pool chlorine and paints. Many of these products are not dangerous goods however some can be flammable, corrosive, explosive or toxic and must never be disposed of in your household waste bin.
Some handy tips:
- a maximum of 20 litres of household hazardous waste will be accepted per household
- it is possible to drop off items where the resident is no longer certain of the type of waste stored (e.g. unlabelled waste that has been decanted into another container). The waste disposal and recycling contractor separates these items, analyses them and treats accordingly.
The following items are not accepted:
- asbestos
- ammunitions/explosives/flares etc.
