* Some wastes are exempt from the waste levy or applications can be made to make them exempt. Disaster management waste and separated clean earthern materials are exempt. Applications can be made to DERM to exempt the following: residue from charity recycling activities, organised community clean-up events, certain contaminated soils, waste to be used for landfill site earthworks, biosecurity waste. Evidence of DERM exemption certificates must be provided to receive the exemption.
** Only regulated wastes permitted under the development approval conditions for each landfill site can be received. Definitions of regulated waste can be found in the Waste Reduction and Recycling Regulations 2011. EPA guidelines state that asbestos must be wetted and wrapped in plastic for transportation and must be placed on the ground with bundles intact.
*** Temporary 50% levy discounts are applicable to residues from recycling activities where approval is granted from DERM. Evidence of DERM discount certificates must be provided to receive the discount.
